Work with me
I’m a software developer based in Sioux Falls, SD. I’m taking on a limited number of consulting and contract projects. If you have something that needs building, fixing, or a second look, I’d like to hear about it.
What I help with #
- Finishing and hardening AI-built apps. Taking something built with AI tools, or a prototype, and making it production-ready: auth, payments, deployment, data handling, and debugging.
- Code review and technical advisory. A few hours a month for business owners or small teams building their own tools who want an experienced second opinion.
- Custom web apps, integrations, and automation for small businesses. Replacing spreadsheet-and-email workflows, connecting systems, and building internal tools.
Background #
I do server-side development in PHP, Ruby, and Python. Since 2019 my focus has been Python and Docker. I handle containerization, orchestration, and deployment with Docker and Kubernetes. I was an eZ Publish expert in the past. I studied at the University of South Dakota and Southeast Technical Institute.
I built and maintain sfdevs.com, the Sioux Falls developer community site, and the 2018 South Dakota Code Camp site. You can see both on the Portfolio page.
A few things from my resume:
- Implemented Apache Solr search for a large publishing company, indexing about 350,000 documents across 4 Solr cores and 5 websites.
- Built an e-commerce MVP for a large retail company using Symfony/Sylius with Stripe payments for a subscription-based food delivery service.
How I work #
- A free intro call to talk through your project.
- Hourly work or small, fixed-scope projects.
- Retainers for ongoing work.
- Clear communication throughout.
- You own the code.
How I think about AI-assisted development #
I wrote about the risk of shipping AI-generated code without understanding how it works, and that thinking shapes how I approach AI-built apps: The Prompt-Engineered Plateau.
